Ecclesia Semper Reformanda: Eklesiologi Etis dan Panggilan Gereja sebagai Komunitas Moral yang Terus Bertobat di tengah Demoralisasi Publik

Abstract

The public demoralization, marked by widespread corruption, the erosion of leadership integrity, and declining social trust, places the church at a critical crossroads: can the church genuinely present itself as a credible and transformative moral community? This article argues that the principle ecclesia semper reformanda, the church that must always be reformed according to the Word of God, needs rehabilitation from its slogan-domestication toward a living paradigm of ethical ecclesiology. By integrating historical-biblical analysis, dogmatic construction, and Indonesian contextual reflection, the article builds the argument that the authentic church is a moral community that is simul sancta et peccatrix, simultaneously holy and sinful, and precisely for this reason is called to continual repentance (semper reformanda) as the prerequisite for its prophetic ministry to the nation. Without consistent communal moral reformation, the church loses its theological legitimacy to serve as a credible voice amid Indonesia's public demoralization crisis. This study offers a paradigmatic reconstruction of semper reformanda as an ecclesial imperative that transcends denominational boundaries.

Demoralisasi publik yang ditandai dengan merebaknya korupsi, erosi integritas kepemimpinan, dan melemahnya kepercayaan sosial menempatkan gereja di persimpangan yang krusial: apakah gereja mampu hadir sebagai komunitas moral yang kredibel dan transformatif? Artikel ini berargumen bahwa prinsip ecclesia semper reformanda, gereja yang harus selalu diperbarui menurut Firman Allah, perlu direhabilitasi dari domestikasi slogannya menuju paradigma eklesiologi etis yang hidup. Dengan mengintegrasikan analisis historis-biblis, konstruksi dogmatis, dan refleksi kontekstual Indonesia, artikel ini membangun argumen bahwa gereja yang autentik adalah komunitas moral yang simul sancta et peccatrix, sekaligus kudus dan berdosa, dan justru karena itu dipanggil untuk terus-menerus bertobat (semper reformanda) sebagai prasyarat bagi pelayanan profetiknya kepada bangsa. Tanpa reformasi moral komunal yang konsisten, gereja kehilangan legitimasi teologis untuk menjadi suara yang kredibel di tengah krisis demoralisasi publik di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menawarkan rekonstruksi paradigmatis semper reformanda sebagai imperatif eklesial yang melampaui batas denominasi.
